What is a Cosmeceutical?

Cosmeceuticals have been around for years, but I often get asked by my clients "What is a Cosmeceutical?"

A Cosmeceutical refers to a combination of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. They are a cosmetic product with biologically active ingredients proven to have clinical benefits.

Unlike a cosmetic product, which only work on the outermost layer of the epidermis (dead skin cells which are on the surface of the skin) & is unable to feed or nourish the skin, a cosmeceutical is able to work deep down within the skin on live tissue to make a change in the skin & deliver real results.

Cosmeceuticals work in the skin on two levels.

  • They work within the epidermis to deliver lightening agents, AHA's, anti-oxidants and Vitamin C.
  • They then work on a deeper level down in the dermis of the skin to deliver retinols to work on collagen & other elastin stimulating ingredients.

My personal favorite cosmeceutical range that I work closely with my clients is IMAGE skincare.

They offer a wide range of products enabling us to use it on all of our clients. Whether they are concerned with acne, dryness, dehydration, sun damage, fine lines & wrinkles or rosacea, we are able to treat and deliver results to achieve great skin & my clients feel confident about their skin.

Aging is inevitable, this we know, however if you're keen to maintain youthful, healthy skin for as long as possible, I highly recommend to add cosmeceuticals to your skincare regimen.
